Connect another mail account

OVHcloud, or any provider with IMAP. Use your mailbox password, or an app password where your provider asks for one.

Before you start#

  • Your full email address, for example jana@nordlicht.example.
  • Your mailbox password. OVHcloud mail doesn't need an app-specific password.

Steps#

  1. In Routira, open Settings › Mail accounts (or the Bring your mail step when you first sign in) and choose Other IMAP account.
  2. Enter your full email address and your mailbox password. The field is called Password or app password; for OVHcloud, your normal mailbox password goes there.
  3. Choose Connect. Routira sees that your domain's mail is at OVHcloud and tries your Email Pro server (pro1.mail.ovh.net, pro2.mail.ovh.net, …) by itself.
  4. If Routira asks for server settings, choose Enter server settings and use the server shown in the OVHcloud Control Panel under Email Pro › General information, with the ports below.
  5. Your newest mail arrives first. Routira says when the last 30 days are ready, and older mail follows in the background.

Server settings#

You only need these if Routira asks for them.

Server Port Security User name
Incoming (IMAP) pro<N>.mail.ovh.net 993 SSL/TLS Your full email address
Outgoing (SMTP) pro<N>.mail.ovh.net 587 STARTTLS Your full email address

<N> is your server number from the OVHcloud Control Panel.

Other OVHcloud mail#

These use the same address and password, but we haven't tested them with a real account yet. If something doesn't work, tell us at hello@routira.com.

Product Incoming (IMAP) Outgoing (SMTP)
MX Plan (mail included with a domain or web hosting) ssl0.ovh.net, 993, SSL/TLS ssl0.ovh.net, 465, SSL/TLS
Hosted Exchange (over IMAP) ex<N>.mail.ovh.net, 993, SSL/TLS ex<N>.mail.ovh.net, 587, STARTTLS

For Hosted Exchange, the Control Panel shows the server under Microsoft › Exchange › General information.

Good to know#

  • Both sides stay in sync: read state, flags, moves and folders, so Apple Mail and OVHcloud's webmail see what you did in Routira.
  • Mail you send from Routira is filed into your Sent folder, so it shows up in your other mail apps too.
  • If you change your mailbox password at OVHcloud, Routira can't sign in any more and asks you to reconnect.
  • Disconnecting in Routira stops sync right away, and Routira deletes its copies within 30 days. Your mail at OVHcloud is never touched.

If something goes wrong#

  • The password is refused. Sign in to OVHcloud's webmail with the same address and password. If that works, try again in Routira; check for a space at the start or end of the password.
  • Routira asks for server settings. Your domain's mail may not point at OVHcloud, or the server number is unusual. Enter the server from the Control Panel as above.
  • The server can't be reached. Check that your connection works, then try again in a minute.
